Summer is just around the corner and that means, for many people, school vacation! Even when those trips and camps come up, you always bring one common element with you wherever you go, and that’s YOU! No matter where you go, there will always be an opportunity to strengthen your leadership skills and be a positive impact around others. Let’s take a look at some of those different ways of being an impact and displaying your leadership skills.

Being a leader means something different to everyone but the common thread is that they inspire and positively impact those around them. Leadership qualities manifest differently in each person. No matter your position on the field or court, you have real experience leading others. The environment that sports provides accelerates these qualities in athletes. In our culture, athletes are put on a pedestal. Because the spot light is always on, athletes are given great opportunity to be a leader and influence others.

A key piece of being the best leader you can be, is to remain authentic. Don’t change your personality if you are named captain of the team or put in a new position on the field. Hear more about different leadership styles from Julie Foudy, Mia Hamm, and Alex Morgan: “Sock Talks” by Julie Foudy.
